Rules. Conversion of mixed numbers to improper fractions.

    A mixed number can be converted to an improper fraction in three steps:
  • Multiply the whole number part by the fraction's denominator.
  • Add that to the numerator.
  • The resulting sum is the numerator of the new (improper) fraction, with the denominator remaining the same in both the mixed number and the improper fraction.
